About
The Salvation Army is an integral part of the Christian church, although distinctive in government and practice. The Army's doctrine follows the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasize God's saving purposes. Its objectives are the advancement of the Christian religion...of education, the relief of poverty, and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole.'' (Salvation Army Act of 1980) We are blessed to be able to serve here in Freeport. The Salvation Army has been active in the community since 1885 and for 130 years, whenever people in Freeport and the surrounding area have needed help, they have found solace at The Salvation Army. There are numerous opportunities for individuals and organizations to join The Salvation Army in our goal of sharing the love of God with others by helping meet their needs. Seasonally, volunteer bell ringers are vital to raising the funds needed to operate year-round. Volunteers assist in preparing and serving lunch almost every week day during the year, as well as staff our pantry. We would love to discuss which of these, and other opportunities, would work best for you! We also gratefully accept donations of many shapes and sizes. Monetary donations are always welcome, as well as food, toys, gift cards or certificates, and toiletries. Garden-fresh produce is greatly appreciated in our lunch program and food pantry when in-season! To see our volunteer opportunities contact us at (815) 235-7638. See how you and your gifts can make a difference!
